Transforming a Living Space with a Bespoke Bar and Storage Installation

When a long-standing client returns with a new idea, it is not only a compliment but also a testament to trust, craftsmanship and shared creative vision. In this project, the client approached us with a clear and ambitious concept. They wanted a dramatic transformation of their living space through a fully bespoke bar and storage installation. Their aim was to elevate the room both functionally and aesthetically by creating a centrepiece that would integrate seamlessly with the existing furniture and architectural character of their home.

From the outset, the client knew exactly what they wanted to achieve. Our role was to take that vision and develop it into something structurally sound, visually cohesive and tailored down to the smallest detail. What followed was a complete reinvention of the room. We began with a bare, stripped-back wall and ended with a richly crafted feature installation made from Pacific Tobacco Walnut. This included hidden appliances, display lighting and carefully planned storage that suited the client’s lifestyle.

A returning client with a clear vision. We brought it to life with this bespoke bar and storage unit, crafted in rich Pacific Tobacco Walnut to perfectly match existing furniture throughout the home. From hidden wine cooler and running machine storage to feature shelving and dimmable glass lit display, this installation balances function with flair.

The Starting Point

The initial state of the room showed a space in need of complete redevelopment. The walls had been stripped back to plaster, the original fireplace had been removed, and the floor had been cleared to create a blank canvas. Wiring remained exposed, tools and materials were scattered throughout and every surface awaited transformation. Although the room looked unfinished, this stage is often the most important. It is the moment when every choice influences the result and when we begin shaping the foundations of the design.

The client wanted much more than simple cabinetry. Their vision included a multifunctional feature wall that could act as a bar area, a practical storage solution, an open display zone for personal items and a home for integrated technology. All of this needed to feel warm, luxurious, and balanced, without overwhelming the room. Achieving this combination required careful planning of proportions, layout, lighting, and long-term usability.

Designing The Vision

The design phase centred on creating harmony between three essential elements. These were functionality, visual balance, and personal style.

1. Material Selection

We selected Pacific Tobacco Walnut for its rich tone and natural warmth. It matched the client’s existing furniture perfectly and helped create a unified aesthetic throughout the home. Using this material ensured the installation felt like part of the property rather than an afterthought. Its grain and depth added sophistication and helped establish the installation as a key feature of the room.

2. Integrated Storage Solutions

One of the more unique challenges was the need for hidden storage for a wine cooler and a running machine. Both items required precise measurements, proper ventilation and doors designed to conceal them completely. Our goal was to ensure that neither appliance disrupted the smooth, elegant appearance of the cabinetry.

3. Shelving and Display Zones

Open shelving became a major design highlight. We incorporated shelves of varying shapes and sizes to create visual interest and to accommodate ornaments, framed photographs, bottles, and decorative pieces. Illuminated glass lit display sections with dimmable lighting added an ambient glow and offered flexibility for different times of day.

4. Technology Integration

The wall mounted television was included in the design as an intentional focal point. All cables were concealed, and the surrounding cabinetry framed the screen neatly, helping it blend naturally into the layout.

Craftsmanship and Installation

Creating an installation of this scale required detailed craftsmanship and precision. Each component was cut and finished with accuracy to ensure perfect alignment. Floor to ceiling cabinetry demands exact measurements because even a tiny discrepancy becomes noticeable. We ensured all doors lined up correctly, shelves sat level and every joint fit smoothly. The wood grain was aligned to maintain a consistent and cohesive look across the entire structure.

The wine rack was another standout aspect of construction. It was designed not only for secure bottle storage but also to enhance the visual appeal of the installation. Ventilation and access were also planned carefully so that hidden appliances could operate safely and be serviced without difficulty. These technical considerations are essential to creating a long-lasting, high-quality installation.

The Final Transformation

The completed installation delivered a remarkable transformation. The once bare room now features a warm, inviting, and practical focal wall. The Pacific Tobacco Walnut finish adds depth and richness, giving the space a modern yet timeless feel.

The open shelving allows for personal expression with room for treasured items, plants, certificates, ornaments, and artwork. The dimmable lighting creates atmosphere and adds a touch of luxury. Most importantly, the hidden storage solutions work seamlessly without disrupting the clean lines and elegant design of the cabinetry.

Client Impact

For the client, the finished installation represented more than new furniture. It completely changed how they use and enjoy their living space. Their ambitious brief was fully realised through close communication and a thorough understanding of their expectations. The design met practical needs while also elevating the character of the room.

As a returning client, they already trusted our craftsmanship. This project strengthened that relationship and provided them with a feature wall that is both beautiful and functional. It now serves as a centrepiece of their home and reflects their personal style.
