Some projects are ambitious from the very first conversation. This media wall installation in Corfe Mullen is one of them. The client wanted a living room that made a statement, a full-width, floor-to-ceiling feature wall finished in fir green with a Keiserberg oak interior, built around a backlit television set into oak acoustic panelling. Practical, bold, and entirely made to measure.
The result is a room that has been completely transformed.
A Brief with Personality
The client came to us with a clear sense of what they wanted. This was not a project about blending in. The brief called for a strong colour, a rich interior finish, and enough storage to accommodate the full demands of family life, from books and display pieces to gaming equipment, DVDs, and media accessories, all contained within one cohesive design.
Equally important was the focal point. The television needed to feel like part of the installation rather than something mounted on top of it. Every design decision worked backwards from that goal, building a feature wall that was as considered in its detail as it was confident in its character.
Designing the Installation
Fir Green Finish
The choice of fir green sets the tone for the entire room. It is a colour with depth and confidence, rich enough to anchor the wall without feeling oppressive, and warm enough to sit comfortably alongside the natural timber tones used throughout the piece. The Shaker-style door and drawer fronts are finished consistently across every section, with brass hardware adding a refined, characterful detail that lifts the overall look.
Oak Acoustic Panelling
At the heart of the installation is a panel of vertical oak acoustic slats, framing the television and providing a natural contrast against the deep green cabinetry. The warm timber tones of the panelling bring texture and warmth to the centre of the wall, creating a visual anchor that draws the eye naturally to the screen. Backlit Television Integration
The television sits centrally within the acoustic panel, backlit to create a soft ambient glow that adds depth and atmosphere, particularly in the evenings. All cabling is fully concealed within the cabinetry, keeping the lines of the installation clean and uninterrupted. Switched on or off, the wall looks exactly as it should.
Keiserberg Oak Interior
Open any door and the quality of the interior finish is immediately apparent. The Keiserberg oak lining brings warmth and texture inside every cabinet, creating a contrast with the exterior finish that feels considered and premium. It is the kind of detail that turns a well-built piece of bespoke living room furniture into something genuinely special.
Storage Layout
The installation is designed to handle everything. Upper cabinets with brass knob hardware provide concealed storage for everyday items. Open shelving either side of the television gives the client space for books, plants, and personal pieces. The lower section combines wide cupboard doors with a continuous quartz worktop surface, beneath which sit dedicated zones for gaming consoles, media equipment, and DVDs. Drawers on either side add further organisation, finished with brushed brass bar handles throughout.
Craftmanship and Installation
A full-width, floor-to-ceiling installation of this complexity demands precision at every stage. The cabinetry spans the entire wall, which means every panel, door, and drawer front must align perfectly across a significant run. The Shaker profile is consistent from top to bottom, and the brass hardware sits level and true throughout.
The acoustic panelling required particular care. The vertical oak slats needed to be spaced evenly, fixed securely, and aligned precisely with the television recess to ensure the finished centre panel read as a single, unified feature. The quartz worktop surface was templated and fitted to sit flush across the full width of the lower cabinets, reinforcing the clean, unbroken horizontal line that runs across the bottom half of the installation.
The Keiserberg oak interior was applied consistently across every internal surface, ensuring the quality of the finish carries through whether the doors are open or closed. This level of attention to detail is at the core of everything we do at R W Carpentry.
The Finished Result
The photographs show the scale and confidence of the finished piece, but the details are what make it. The fir green cabinetry fills the wall with character. The oak acoustic panel gives the centre section warmth and texture. The backlit television sits exactly where it should.
